Here I am, at 5am Arizona time, up and writing because something has dawned upon me; this is one of the best memories in the making that I will ever have. I’ve met 29 people who are just like me. They are each a Superfan with their respective teams. Yesterday was awesome. I went outside my comfort zone and sang karaoke, as tone deaf as I am. Not only that, I did it with none other than Katie Cernek, who is here representing the Cubs. This is history in the making, like the west coast east coast rap battles where biggie went out west to make it all work. I hope it ends better for me than it did for him.
Besides that, I have met the most dedicated team of individuals from production guys whose vision in putting a video together is epic, to MLB Fan Cave staffers who put their blood, sweat, and tears into making this stuff work flawlessly, to Ricardo, who has joined them in PR, all the way to an exec VP for MLB. I was interviewed, asked questions about my baseball loyalties, and about my other specialty, mattresses.
Memories like this are here and gone in the blink of an eye. Today, I plan on making that blink turn into a close-eyed, deep breath, memories so thick you have to swat them away type of day. The forges of friendship are burning red hot, and I can feel the dull pain of parting ways already creeping into my heart. That dull pain will temper those forged friendships and make them that much stronger.
To quote the motto once used by the bullpen of the Brewers, Carpe Diem. Today I will for sure seize the day, record it to memory via twitter and Facebook, and treasure what I have seen and done, and more importantly whom I have done it with.
